There used to be a word widely applied to Christians who weren't walking closely with the Lord any longer. "Backsliding" as it was termed, is as common today as ever, even if we rarely describe it that way. If Satan is unsuccessful at keeping someone's soul from being redeemed by the blood of Christ, he then goes directly to "Plan B." This plan requires that demons of all sorts try to get the new Christian off track with money, or sex, or just about anything that will distract them and keep them from growing and becoming a strong Christ follower. When they succeed, and they succeed a lot, they'll keep the new Christian from sharing their faith with others, thereby ending what could have been a pyramid of thousands of souls saved. King Saul was a backsliden man of God. As a result, his kingdom was stripped away and he and his sons were killed. The enemies of Israel celebrated the once great man's fall with pagan revelry. Similarly, when a backsliden Christian falls into sin, Satan and his demons revel in it and celebrate the fall to their idols.
"The next day when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. They cut off his head and stripped off his armor, and they sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news in the temple of their idols and among their people. They put his armor in the temple of the Ashtoreths and fastened his body to the wall of Beth Shan." 1 Samuel 31:8-10
