The stories of the patience of Job are world renowned. Even people who haven't heard a word of the Bible have probably heard of the man named Job who underwent incredible pain and suffering and refused to curse God for it. The book of Job is a hard one for me to read because I know I do not have that type of faith. But something interesting popped out at me during my last trip through this ancient book. Job claims that instead of being delivered "from" our afflictions the Lord actually delivers us "in" our afflictions. It reminds me of an ex-Vietnam POW I heard speak one time who claimed he was no hero--he only dealt with one day at a time and searched for the strength to make it through only one day at a time. No doubt Job was an exceptional human being, but I also believe the Lord gives those who trust Him the faith to endure whatever He allows to enter their lives.
"But those who suffer he delivers in their suffering; he speaks to them in their affliction." Job 36:15
