Far too many people practice the "do what I say, and not what I do" principle. Maybe you've heard it, or even done it yourself. Many parents are guilty of such a sin, and so are many ministers of the Lord. If you're telling those you witness to or mentor one thing, and then doing the opposite yourself, that makes you a hypocrite. As far as I'm concerned, the church doesn't have a larger enemy than that of believers who don't practice what they preach. The early Christians did it another way... and they set the example for us. Imagine the disciplined and godly life the Apostle Paul had to be living to pen these words...
"I am not writing this to shame you, but to warn you, as my dear children. Even though you have ten thousands of guardians you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. Therefore I urge you to imitate me. For this reason I am sending to you Timothy, my son whom I love, who is faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church." 1 Corinthians 4:14-17
