It doesn't take too awful long for people who hang around church to pick up the "lingo." Once we learn the right words to use here and there, we can quite often use them without even knowing their meaning. Recently, I did a quite unscientific poll to find out if anyone who'd recently sung or said the word, "Hallelujah," had any idea of what it meant. Many were close, but few knew the real meaning. Originally "Hallelujah" was two words. "Hallelu" meaning "praise" and "yah" being short for God's more formal title, "Yahweh." A Jew who truly feared (respected) God would never have used His whole name. They would shorten it--in this case to "yah." At any rate, "Praise God" was (and is) the meaning. Whether it's this word or some other, you don't have to use the "religious sounding" words, and although I personally like the sound of many of them, using them without an understanding of what they mean will not gain God's approval. What's more, I think it dishonors Him. Praise God that He's less interested in our vernacular than He is with our hearts!
"After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting: 'Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God, for true and just are his judgements.'" Revelation 19:1
