There's been a lot of hype about high-rollers in the business world selling stocks right before the price plummeted. As the details have emerged, the vast majority of them are under suspicion for what we call "insider trading." Basically, they knew something about the companies involved before anyone else did. They sold their stocks just in time, leaving everyone else "holding the bag." The government and just about everyone else is furious about it, but nobody's madder than those who didn't have the "inside" information. Many of them (myself included) have watched their stock portfolios lose large sums of money because of the resulting volatility in the stock market.
The whole insider trading thing makes me wonder... If Christians have the "inside scoop" on everything from eternity with God to the coming signs of the end of the world as we know it, why don't they share it more often? It's not against the law (at least not yet anyway) to share the Good News of Jesus! I wonder, what will our friends think when they look up to heaven and see us embracing our Lord? Friends? It's hard to imagine a friend would have the inside scoop, be within their legal bounds to tell you about it, and decide not to for "personal reasons."
"The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.' But Abraham replied, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.' " Jesus of Nazareth (Luke 16:22-26)
