In my work with unchurched and at risk youth, I find more than my share who claim to have real intellectual problems with God. Those that have given Him much thought at all will lay out all the commonly advanced arguments about His existence. A few even have some interesting takes on things, but most times the arguments are pretty thin and easy to answer. Still, even with their questions answered, many young people still don't want anything to do with believing God's words about Himself. The reason is really quite simple. The arguments are not actually ones of intellectual substance, but of moral problems. Believing in God would then open them up to following God. Following God requires denying one's own dreams and desires in favor of His. What they are really saying is "I want to live life my own way." That, in essence, is the beginning and the end of sin. Denying God in favor of self. The intellectual argument was a paper tiger...the real issue is morality.
"Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you." James 1:21
