Do you know anybody who cries out for someone to love them, but who also pushes away anyone who tries? It seems fairly common from my vantage point, to varying degrees of course. I have one young friend who is frankly just a little weird when it comes to relationships. As soon as he gets a friend, he tries to control every portion of his/her life as if it were his to control. It's as if they really can't be his friend if they don't do everything his way. In many ways, we each do the same thing to God. We cry out for Him to love us, to hear our prayers and answer them. But, when He tries to do it we ask Him to deny His nature and do it our way, and in accordance with our timing. It's as if we're saying, "Hey come here!" And once He does our actions cry, "Now go away!" If you want to have friends, don't try to control them... it's just not friendly! If you want to have a genuine relationship with God, then meet Him on His terms. Satan wants to control things and our sinful nature wants to do the same thing. God just wants to love you! How about just loving Him back?
"Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you." Psalm 32:9
