When someone does something for me I like to return the favor if I can. It's not that I don't like people doing things for me, it's just that I somehow feel indebted to them--especially if they've done a lot. As Christians we've got to be careful that we don't do things for other people to get things for ourselves, or because we believe their wealth or status may benefit us somewhere done the road. It's in our nature to treat people who can do something for us well, but often we're not as kind, compassionate and giving to those who can't help us a bit. Instead, what we're supposed to do is watch out for people who really aren't in the position to help us, and then help them. If possible, we need to do it so that only Jesus gets the credit for it. To do the opposite is actually sinful.
"Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in. If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, 'Here's a good seat for you,' but say to the poor man, 'You stand there' or 'Sit on the floor by my feet,' have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?" James 2:2-4
