No matter how great our lot in life, it always seems like someone comes along and has it easier than us. Maybe they have more "stuff" or more money, or maybe they're living the "good life" a little too happily and we wish we had it better. It also seems to be in our nature to think we somehow have it worse than other folks--that more is being required of us than the next person. If we were really being fair, someone would also have things worse than us as well. All we'd really need to do is look around. Fortunately for us, Jesus made things simple enough. He didn't ask us to live our neighbor's life and carry their cross, but just to carry the one He gave each of us individually. He was real clear that wanting what our neighbor has is sin, and that includes just wishing we were them! We might be quick to think things aren't fair, but that's really not the way things work. No matter where you're in life, no matter how "unfair" things seem to be, just keep your eyes on the Leader!
"I tell you the truth, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go."
Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, "Follow me!" John 21:18-19
