This may be a big surprise to some, but God wants to bless those He calls His own. If you have a hard time believing that, maybe you haven't been completely honest with Him, or maybe you're not actually giving your life over to Him. Most likely the problem with God blessing you is yours, and not His. Let me give you an example... A couple of weeks ago, one of my sons (a teenager) received some less than average marks at school. Because he's capable of much better work (and because his teachers told us he wasn't putting in much effort), we decided to ground him until his grades improved. A week or so later, we were impressed with his efforts on a science fair project and decided we would remove his restriction when he got home from school. When he came home, however, he was carrying not one, but two slips for not turning in homework on time. No matter how much I wanted to, justice demanded he stay grounded in light of this new information. Similarly, God has blessings to pour out on our lives, but often we limit his ability to care for us with our unfaithfulness. If your Christian walk has been lackluster lately, I'd lay odds your blessings have been few and far between. Make sure the blame is squarely on the right shoulders.
"Again and again they put God to the test; they vexed [or limited] the Holy One of Israel." Psalm 78:41
