They say pastor's kids can be some of the worst kids out there! It seems like I never stop hearing the stories of pastor's kids gone bad. Today, I counseled a man who left the church years ago, not because of pastor's kids, but because of pastors! Similarly, I must have spoken with a few hundred folks who've left churches or ministries because of what they perceived as endless "hypocrisy" No doubt, I've seen plenty of that myself... and I guess if the truth be told, I'm probably a hypocrite in many ways to. You see, we each have a dark side somewhere and I'm no exception. Just because a young person grows up a minister's child doesn't mean they don't have sin in their soul. What more often happens is that they learn to play the role that's expected of them until they can get away from home! The same thing happens with "churched" folks who learn the norms expected of the group and play the "Christian" role, but never have their hearts changed by the Savior. Jesus died not so that we could go around pretending that we're like Him, but so that we would have the power to actually defeat the sin that dwells within us! It doesn't matter whether you're a pastor's kid, a pastor, or just a brand new Christian. What you need is to be utterly and completely sold out to the fact that Jesus is your only hope. You may be worthy of an Oscar for the role you play for those around you, but He who lives IN you won't be fooled for a second!
"And you, my son Solo acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever." 1 Chronicles 28:9
