When I was a young man, a handshake was all it took to seal even the largest of deals. A person's "word was his bond" as the saying goes. Today, I find it much more difficult to find people who are honest, and this includes those who congregate in churches. "Honestly," I've had more trouble when I've taken a Christian at his word than I have with those who don't know the Lord. This troubles me greatly! It's hard to know who to trust and who not to. Isn't the church--the Body of Christ--supposed to be a family? If your word is worthless among your own family members, then it can't be worth much to a lost and hurting world either. This lack of honesty not only hurts the church family by developing a climate of mistrust, but it also does the work of the enemy, keeping others away from the church. At any rate, no matter what other people do, our God is a God of His Word. To emulate Him requires honesty, even when it hurts!
"I the Lord have spoken, and I will do it." Ezekiel 17:24b
