The first few years I worked with youth in a church, the leadership team always struggled with how to impart God's truths to teens in such a way they would enjoy the learning experience, but still leave with a greater ability to follow and please the Lord. Since I always worked with teens, the subject of sex seemed to come up again and again. I remember sitting with a teen council going through possible topics for future lessons one day when one of the teens said, "Why do you leaders always want to talk about sex?" My response was so immediate, I don't even remember where the thought came from. Although, I do remember it as if it were yesterday. "Because you're not listening," I retorted, and I was absolutely right! Years later that same teen is now living with a woman who is not his wife while his parents hang their head in grief. Many teens believe they can live the lie. They believe they can attend church, pray from time-to-time, read their Bibles however sporadically, and still have an active sex-life out of wedlock. And why shouldn't they? Many of their parents are doing the same thing, and certainly society is hitting them with the "if it feels good do it" message on a daily basis. The truth is that parents, youth workers, and even the Lord Himself can't keep someone who's dead-set to live in sin from doing it. You can blame it on the example set for you, or you can do it in spite of great examples. Sin is still ugly in the dark! And... unfortunately for many of those who've been raised in the church, their false sense of being "okay" with God is a lie from the devil. It only serves to worsen the damage and quicken the punishment.
"If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgement and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God." Hebrews 10:26-27
