When I was young, I learned that best friends could tell each other things and could expect that those "secrets" would not be shared. As I grew older I learned that much of what we tell each other in secret, is really just gossip, and much of what we "trust" each other to keep secret is o0ften shared far and wide. When someone says, "Can I tell you a secret," they're often just wanting to tell you something quietly that's probably not appropriate to tell you at all. For some reason, we're fascinated with spreading gossip about other people. As people separated from God, we often fall away from the reality that God knows everything we say, everything we do, and everything we think. The problem is not that God has moved away, but that WE have just forgotten about Him. To be sure, however, God is not impressed with much of what comes out of our mouths--and especially with many of our "little secrets!" As Christians, we need to be very careful with not only what we say, but even with what we are willing to listen to.
"There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs." Luke 12:2-3
