I've been really afraid a few times in my life. Mostly when I was young, but I've also had a moment or two of fear since I've been an adult. (Incidentally, most of them occurred when I was teaching my eldest daughter how to drive!) If you've ever been afraid for even a moment, then you no-doubt know how it can grip you. Now, just for a moment, imagine you are being chased by three thousand people, and you're only being protected by a few folks. And... just to make things worse, imagine that the thousands chasing you are none other than the President and his best troops. In fact, the President hates you and wants you dead today! Are you afraid yet? I would be! During times like these in our country, many people are afraid. May I remind you that "fear" is not something that comes from God. "Fear," is in fact, the opposite of "faith." No matter how things look, or how afraid you may become momentarily, remember it is God who ordains the outcome of every life He makes. Nothing will catch Him off guard. As followers of Jesus Christ, our trust should be in Him, and in Him alone. A response based on faith is what He expects, and what He deserves.
"After Saul returned from pursuing the Philistines, he was told, 'David is in the Desert of En Gedi.' So Saul took three thousand chosen men from all Israel and set out to look for David and his men near the Crags of the Wild Goats. He came to the sheep pens along the way; a cave was there, and Saul went in to relieve himself. David and his men were far back in the cave. The men said, 'This is the day the LORD spoke of when he said to you, "I will give your enemy into your hands for you to deal with as you wish."' Then David crept up unnoticed and cut off a corner of Saul's robe." 1 Samuel 24:1-4
Even in terror, David did not act in fear. He had the enemy who pursued Him into the cave under the blade of his knife, but instead of following what everyone else said, David acted appropriately... and in FAITH!
