Sometimes being a church-goer can be a real drag! It's not the "Body of Christ" part I have trouble with; it's the people! Unfortunately for my conscience, that's the way Christ chose to conduct business in this age, and so dealing with difficult people will remain a part of church life. A more difficult struggle ensues when these predictable human vs. human struggles move into leadership roles. This is when things can get dicey for a congregation. The Scriptures clearly tell us not to become burdens for our leaders (Hebrews 13:17), but what if we genuinely believe our leaders are running aground? My best advice is to listen and observe carefully what your leaders are saying and judge it with the Scriptures. Paul commended the Barean's for doing just that. If your leaders are on the mark, support them as you would support Jesus Himself! If you're positive they're going astray, you have a God-given burden to do whatever you can to gently and lovingly bring them back to center. If that proves impossible, and it rarely will, we are exhorted to expose the evil (Ephesians 5:11) whether we like the persecution we'll face or not.
"Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock,... for I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to dray away the disciples after themselves." Acts 20:28-31
