In some senses, the ministry I run may put me in a similar path as the one you're in. And before you tell me you're not in ministry, you ARE in ministry if you are a Christian. Some ministries are more formal than others, but all Christians are ministers. But, to get back to my point, there are generally going to be two groups of people both you and I hang with. I meet with a group of believers at least a few days a week, and generally, they're the most uplifting and helpful group of folks in the world. No doubt there are always going to be a few personality conflicts and the like, but hanging with believers can do a lot for our faith. On the other days of the week, I run a ministry to teenagers, the vast majority of which are not Christian. Most of them could also care less about anything religious! Although the young people are generally accepting of our ministry because we give them a fun place to go, I have been cussed out many a time by drunk parents coming to pick up a kids, and by neighbors who don't like the fact that we have hundreds of teens in our ministry building making noise. Either way, and in every case, I still try to shine the light of Christ. No matter whether you're being loved on by your Christian brothers and sisters, or hated for your faith by unbelievers, you still have the responsibility to shine the Light you were so freely given. Our "aroma" to either group has a lot more to do with who we call Lord than it does with us personally.
"For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life." 2 Corinthians 2:15-16a
