Remember that Scripture where Jesus says to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan"? (Matthew 16:23). Imagine... Jesus, the friend you'd been walking the Earth with and ministering with for three years just said such a thing to you. What a bitter pill that must have been for Peter to swallow. After all, he was only trying to help when he received the firm rebuke. Peter had in mind the things of Satan, and not of God--foolish sinners like you and I often do the same thing. We get out in front of God, doing things what seem right, but often we later learn the error of our ways. As painful as it might have been, at least Peter knew that at that very moment that he was in error. For us, the only sure way is often to search the Scriptures and pray for divine guidance. Incidentally, when we move out in front of God, we actually put Him where Jesus ordered Satan to go.
"You have done more evil than all who loved before you. You have made for yourself other gods, idols made of metal; you have provoked me to anger and THRUST ME BEHIND YOUR BACK." 1 Kings 14:9 (Emphasis mine)
