I butted in on a couple of close Christian friends who were about to do something quite questionable the other day. To my surprise, one of them exclaimed, "It's OK, we're forgiven!" "Are you sure?" I cried! I've found there is a real misconception about forgiveness among Christians today. Some have the impression that it's OK to sin because Jesus already paid for them. First, this is a dire misconception. Almost the entire book of 1st John speaks to the fact that being willing to sin proves you don't know the Lord at all. Second, and probably more appropriate to the situation I found myself in with my young friends, to continue to sin after we know Jesus as our Savior is to mock His blood.
"What shall be say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase. By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?" Romans 6:1-2
