Do you love the truth? Do you have a lie? Although I'd jump at answering "yes" to both of those questions, a little deeper thought makes me wonder. Since Jesus is the Truth, and I say I love Him, wouldn't that mean that I am completely devoted to Him? Although I'm a strong Christian, "completely devoted" is a stretch for sure. And then there's the "little white lie" I told the other day that got me out of a long conversation with someone I don't enjoy talking with. A lie is a lie, even if it appears to be a welcome friend coming to your rescue. As a minister, I'm often asked why a loving God would send people to hell. My answer is always the same, "God doesn't send people to hell... people choose hell by embracing what they know to be a lie and refusing to love the Truth. They are 'lost' because of their own doing and if they 'love the lie' long enough, they begin to believe it and even hate the truth." Do you love the truth? Do you hate a lie? As painful as self examination is, it can sure go a long way toward repairing your relationship with the Lord. And those two questions are as good a spot to start as any I've ever seen.
"They perish because they refuse to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness." 2 Thessalonians 2:10b-12
