Believe it or not, there are still plenty of slaves in the world. I've read extensively about many countries in the world where one person enslaves another. In Biblical times, people who got themselves into debt often enslaved themselves to their debtors in order to work off their debts. It's probably no accident that several of the Apostles (Peter, James, John, and Jude) called themselves slaves. In fact, they had readily given lordship of their lives over to Jesus, by way of accepting His Holy Spirit. Christianity is often mistaken by many as a religion for wimps and people who cannot handle life. To those people I would say only that if they think giving their life completely to someone else is easy, maybe they should try it! Call it modern slavery if you like, but being a slave for Christ is all I ever want to be!
“
But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life." Romans 6:22
