There's something innate in humans that makes us want to strike out at those who hurt us. Just tonight someone was following me way to closely on the highway, and although I quickly moved over so they could get by, I must admit I quietly thought I should have let him wait back there for a while. People are going to push our buttons no matter how careful we are not to bother others, but as Christians we need to be quick to settle disputes if we can. That doesn't mean we water down Christian doctrine or our faith, but it does mean that we let our pride go. In the end, it's really not about us, but about how our Savior has repeatedly told us to behave. If we were quick to put down our pride, I believe our churches would be better places to congregate, and certainly better poised to reach the lost. As it is, we fight battles with our brothers and sisters right in very place we're supposed to be worshipping our Lord. What's makes it worse is that some of these battles have been going on so long we don't even remember what we were fighting about. When somebody hurts you (and it WILL happen sooner or later) drop your fists... drop your pride, and do your best to keep rifts out of the Body of Christ.
"I want men everywhere to life up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing." 1 Timothy 2:8
