When I was a young man, my parents divorced and I was raised by my mom and step-father until I was thirteen. At thirteen they divorced, and I found myself without a solid male role-model at a critical age. As is the case with all vacuums (and I don't mean vacuum cleaners!), they try to fill themselves immediately. I quickly found my newfound leadership vacuum became filled with a group of boys who ran in our neighborhood. They were always up to no good, and I repeatedly found myself following them around while they looked (even searched) for mean things to do. "Hey, we could spray paint that car!" or "Let's kick that cat!" were even more quickly replaced by, "Let's steal a car!" As crazy as it sounds, I followed them right up to about that point before my desire to be liked was overcome by the reality of how incredibly stupid these boys were! I wound up paying some penalties, but my guess is that many of them are even now paying for their ever-increasing ignorance with jail time.
"A fool finds pleasure in evil conduct, but a man of understanding delights in wisdom." Proverbs 10:23
