Throughout the Old Testament God deals harshly with individual people (and groups of people) who fail to give Him the glory for things He has done. Far too often they instead opted to take the credit themselves. As we read these biblical accounts it seems easy to look at our ancestors pridefully as we exclaim how foolish they were to dishonor God so. But the truth is that many of us "New Testament" believers do the same thing on an even more frequent basis. Think about it! God gives us gifts to serve the body, gives us opportunities to be involved in His work, blesses that work with fruit and then we stand up and quite boldly take the credit for it without even the slightest blush. Pride is a dangerous and pervasive sin. When you examine your heart, do you find pride living there and proclaiming what "it" has done? Put it to death... You may not have people blindly singing your praises but you'll be much better off in the long run!
"For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not? 1 Corinthians 4:7
