We live in a world where humble people get run over. If you don't tell others how good you are, you might never get a job. Hey, you might not even get an interview! And what about college? If you don't fill every square inch of your applications with all the great stuff you did in high school, you won't stand a chance against everyone else. And what about conversations with the opposite sex? Done any bragging there lately? As I work with teenagers, I have yet to run into more than just a handful who weren't busily telling anyone who'd listen how great they were. And when it gets really bad, the same sort of self-serving chatter works its way into churches and ministries. That's when I believe God really gets irritated. If Christians have one single thing to boast about, it's what our Lord did for us. Beyond that, we're just beggars who were handed some food.
"But, 'Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.' For it is not he one who commends himself who is approved, but the one who the Lord commends." 2 Corinthians 10:17
