I played a little game with my young daughters when they were younger. We call the game, "Prepare for Inspection," and it's an excellent game to play right after they've destroyed their bedroom. Unlike my older kids who've learned that it's mostly just a thinly veiled attempt to get them to clean their rooms the little ones loved it. Cleaning that might otherwise take hours and 15 or 20 complaints only takes a few minutes while they "prepare for Daddy's inspection." And, since I spent 20 years in the military, we do the inspection with the proper salutes (theirs always make me laugh) and all the other military revelry you'd expect. I learned that in the military, inspections are a great way to get everything and everybody up to 100% in a short amount of time. Also, I learned that it's a great way to find out what's not working well so that it can be fixed. As you ponder your relationship with Christ today, consider for a moment anything that is not in "inspection order" in your life. Unlike my daughters (and my old military troops) who usually have some time to prepare, your Lord is always standing ready to inspect your life and your relationship with Him. But unlike a military commander, He'll stand at the door and knock, waiting patiently for you to welcome Him in!
"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me." Revelation 3:20
