The Bible was banned from being taught in American public schools in 1963, but that does not mean we cannot read it, or even take it to school? It means that the government cannot teach it to you. I read my Bible every single day, and my children do the same. As I always tell the young people I work closely with, "Read it every day you wake up breathing!" Why such a definitive exhortation? The "Word" as it is called in Scripture is much more than a book, but actually the very words of our Creator. Although our sinfulness caused Him to turn His back on us, the giver of life has given us a book to lead us back to Him. I believe that much of the decline of our nation and the world today is due in large part to ignorance of God's word. So important is the Word of God to people and to nations, that centuries ago God commanded anyone who would lead the government of His people to re-write it in their own hand. What's more, they were to read it every day of their lives. If you're having problems staying on the path God would have you on, consider spending a few minutes of your day listening to what God has to say to you.
"When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law... It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees and not consider himself better than his brothers and turn from the law to the right or to the left. Then he and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in Israel." Deuteronomy 17:18-20
