During the ministries of the early Christians, some questions arose as to the doctrine that was being preached to the Gentiles (that's everyone NOT Jewish) and to the Jews. At one point, the apostle Paul began to wonder if the good news He had received from God was the same as what Peter and the other apostles were preaching. Since Peter knew Jesus during His earthly ministry, Paul traveled to meet Peter and the others and make sure his Christian doctrine was solid. After their discussions, Paul's doctrine was found to be perfect. The only advice Peter had for Paul was to "remember the poor." Churches today are still arguing and disagreeing as to doctrine, and much of what they fight about could be cleared up if people kept the "important stuff important". Some of the arguments are so silly it makes me wonder if those fighting them are children or adults. Either way, once your doctrine is soundly rooted in the Scriptures, then don't forget that caring for the poor is not supposed to take a back seat to arguing over the color of carpet in your church's sanctuary. It does in far too many churches.
"All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do." Galatians 2:10
