One of the most disliked words in the church today is "submit!" Frankly, most people don't want to submit to anybody or anything. Much is said about women and children "submitting," but not much about men. Surely, I used to submit a lot when I was a boy, but as a husband and father, admittedly I submit much less now. The United States is a place where we pride ourselves on our freedom. Submitting just isn't in our blood unless we absolutely have to! Similarly, in New Testament times, slaves, women, children, and many others were forced to submit to just about everybody. Since Christians are all brothers and sisters in the Lord, strange as it may sound, we must submit to each other, regardless of our gender or age. Just imagine what the church would be like if we each submitted ourselves and everything we own to each other's care. Submitting not because we're weaker or "lower" than anyone else, but because it shows respect to one another and for our Lord.
"Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ." Ephesians 5:21
