Have you ever felt the Lord's conviction telling you to bring a sin to someone else's attention? It's a difficult thing to do, because we all know we're sinners, too. The fact remains that often God will do just that. He will use one man (or woman) to sharpen another. When His Spirit convicts and urges us, then we are to prayerfully and immediately do His bidding. When confronted with their sin, a Spirit-filled follower will repent, agreeing with God and thanking you for being faithful. A sinful and unrepentant person will mock you, talk about you behind your back, and probably even try to do you harm. So here's the question. If they accept the rebuke do you feel better about yourself than if they mock you? Either way you've done what you were commanded to do. Whether we like it or not, doing what we're commanded to do can quite often cause us serious pain. Faithfulness is still required. God is still in control.
"The Lord, the God of their fathers, sent word to them through his messengers again and again, because he had pity on his people and on his dwelling place. But they mocked God's messengers, despised his words and scoffed at his prophets until the wrath of the Lord was aroused against his people and there was no remedy." 2 Chronicles 36:15-16
