I often wonder why bad things happen to good people. Although none of us will always know the reason God allows difficulty into our lives, I do know that He often lets things happen to wayward Christians to call them back from their sinful ways. The Lord loves us so much that He is not willing that we should continue to hurt ourselves, much less defame His holy name. Many times in the Scriptures God proves His love through the way He is steadfast in His promise to discipline us. Like a good parent, He continues to teach and instruct us until we return to Him. For those who's souls have been purchased with the blood of Christ and later slip into sins they refuse to repent of, believe it or not, the Lord actually loves them enough to end their lives--sometimes saving them from themselves by bringing them home early.
"I gave you empty stomachs in every city and a lack of bread in every town, yet you have not returned to me," declares the Lord... "People staggered from town to town for water but did not get enough to drink, yet you have not returned to me," declares the Lord.... "I sent plagues among you as I did to Egypt"... "You were like a burning stick snatched from the fire, yet you have not returned to me," declares the Lord. "Therefore this is what I will do to you... prepare to meet your God, O Israel." Amos 4:6-12
