Have you ever been really thirsty? I try to run a few miles fairly regularly and have definitely been thirsty as a result of a few miles spent in the noonday sun. There's nothing quite like the feeling of being parched--and nothing will quench the thirst quite like water. Back in my pre-Christian days, I used to think the answer to such a thirst was a long-tall beer! And sure, if you've learned the taste for beer, it definitely seems to quench the thirst for a while, but in fact, it's starving the body of much needed fluids, and leaving the consumer even more thirsty in the end. Now imagine that desire we have to know God as a thirst. It's like a passion that simply cannot be quenched with anything but the real thing--with an encounter with the One True God. Similarly, the things of life that people "thirst" for often seem to fill perceived needs for a while, but the only real answer to what a man needs is an encounter with God; with His Son Jesus, the Water of Life.
"The Spirit and the bride way, 'Come!' And let him who hears say, 'Come!' Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life."
