Who's really in control of your life? The sign outside a church near my home recently read, "To see your prayers come true, you've got to get off your knees!" While I can certainly agree with the need for us all to roll up our sleeves and get busy in life, I must admit I thought the church got it's message turned-around. Not many people have a problem with trying to advance their own agenda in life. Some strive to that end to the detriment of friends, family and even their own personal health. While I could imagine a motivational speaker, a politician and maybe even a teacher or professor making such a statement, I thought it ironic that a church was making it. Aren't we, the Body of Christ, supposed to be pointing people to His hand for help? Aren't we supposed to be a clear and present reminder that prayer not only works, but it's an imperative? Although it's highly unlikely any of my readers have ever been a slave or a hand maiden, I love the analogy of someone depending on their "master" for even the most basic sustenance. This Scripture paints the picture perfectly...
"I life up my eyes to you, to you whose throne is in heaven. As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid look to the hands of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, till he shows us his mercy." Psalm 123:1-2
So, to whom do you look for help? And not just in times of trouble... for your every need and desire. If it's not the Lord, it should be.
