Jesus got Himself into big trouble with the religious aristocracy of His time. One of the most interesting reasons to me is the fact that they wanted to kill Him because He continually referred to God in a personal way. When Jesus used the term "Abba" to refer to His heavenly Father, the Jews freaked out! What they failed to realize was that Jesus' reference to His Father probably said more about why He was here than almost anything else. Jesus had a personal relationship with an Omnipotent God. So personal that He used the term "Abba," which is literally translated, "Daddy!" Can you imagine a more fitting term for an intimate father-son relationship? And how about that word "intimate?" Not only did Jesus set the example in the way He related to His Father, but He also demonstrated OUR need for a similar relationship. "Relationship" is my final word of the day for this "Father's Day." God so wanted to restore His "relationship" with US that He was willing to let us crucify the only Son that had ever called Him "Daddy."
"Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, 'Abba, Father.'" Galatians 4:6
