"... he who hates correction will die." Proverbs 15:10b
Now that I'm all "grown up," I flat-out don't like to be disciplined. I'm not unruly or anything, but even if I was, I'd probably have a hard time accepting discipline. Being a part of the church I've gotten better about it, since there are times when I make mistakes and a Christian brother or sister is urged by the Spirit to help me get back on track. Still, it's not a comfortable process. But then again, is growing EVER a comfortable process? Discipline is mandatory for a "body" to be effectively managed. And, the Body of Christ is just the same as a human body in that way. Imagine someone whose hands and feet, bowels, mouth, and brain were all doing anything they wanted. Yea, things wouldn't work well would they? In fact, absolutely nothing would be getting done. This is one reason why I believe the church is in so much trouble today. We don't like discipline! This is a free country, and we love our freedom. We'll go to this church, or we'll go to that church, and if someone doesn't like what we say or do, we'll just leave and go to another one. Is it any wonder it's been said, "When discipline leaves the church, Jesus leaves the church."
"Blessed is the man whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty. Job 5:17
