For no apparent reason, my two youngest daughters (ages two and five) unbuckled themselves from their seats in the backseat of my car the other day. We were only down the street from our house, but it scared me. They know the rules! "What's wrong with them!" I thought. I decided I'd better really give them a talking to about it, since they might get hurt one day if they were unbuckled and I had to hit my brakes. Lord knows there are enough close calls on the roads today! So we had our little "talking to" as we drove the last block home, and everything was fine. I was so proud! Dad discovers problem. Dad does investigation. Dad fixes problem. And all without the help of Mom! Everything was fine... until the next morning, that is. Just before we pulled up to the church pre-school/daycare that my daughters attend, I overheard my five year old tell her younger sister not to unbuckle herself. "Don't unbuckle your seatbelt Olivia. Only Daddy's can unbuckle themselves while the car is still moving!" Ouch! Such a powerful conviction coming from such tiny lips... And she was right! Just then I realized, I always unbuckle my seatbelt as we turn the corner of our cul-de-sac, or as we pull up to church. They had only done what they saw their Daddy doing! May we never forget that our actions will ALWAYS speak louder than our words!
"In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead... You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did." James 2:17, 22
