I was ministering to some young people at a local church the other day when I was suddenly accosted by a man wildly throwing questions at me. I was taken back a little until I realized that he was upset about something I said in a sermon earlier that day. As he quickly reminded me, I used a couple of well known cults as examples of what happens when well meaning people receive "visions" and immediately assume they are from God. The next thing you know, they've led thousands of people astray and ultimately the whole bunch is aimed squarely at an eternity separated from God. It seems this gentleman didn't like my generalization and although he didn't admit it, I believe he was a member of either a Mormon or Jehovah's Witness body. Either way, the truth remains the same. Not all visions are from God... AND, not all people who claim to have visions have them. We should immediately test the Spirits to see if they acknowledge that Jesus is the ONLY way to heaven--the promised Messiah. Either that, or we could wait around to see what ultimately happens to false prophets. Today, there are many so-called Christian leaders who will be quick to tell us that we're on the right track as a nation--that God's judgement will not befall us. I strongly disagree...
"They are prophesying to you false visions, divinations, idolatries and the delusions of their own minds. Therefore, this is what the Lord says about the prophets who are prophesying in my name: I did not send them, yet they are saying, 'No sword or famine will touch this land.' Those same prophets will perish by sword and famine." Jeremiah 14:14b-15
