Friends,
I have to make tough phone calls sometimes and one recently was to a woman whose daughter had passed away. She originally contacted us for some financial help in the situation, but I found myself listening to her sobs and knowing money was the least of what she needed.
She apologized more than once for crying on the phone and for sharing the story with a complete stranger. I listened to her talk about her daughter and told her honestly there was nothing I could say to take away this pain. I told her she was allowed to feel all her feelings and to tell them all to God, He could handle it. I also told her there was NO passage in the Bible saying all things happen for a reason. I quoted the verse above and told her to watch for the good, but it may be years until she sees it.
She apologized again and as I hung up the phone after reassuring her, I couldn’t help but be thankful I was the one on the phone with her. I got to remind her the Lord loves her, even in this. I got to tell her Christians who pushed her away aren’t doing a good job representing the rest of us. I got to tell her this personal hell she was going through would in fact not kill her even though her entire body was screaming out, desperate to ease the pain.
Thank you. Thank you for your help making this ministry a possibility so I could be able to make the phone call. Thank you for the prayers you pray when you read letters like this for that momma and her family. Thank you for the financial support so we could meet her temporary need and have the opportunity to address the eternal one. God is moving!
In Christ,
Elizabeth Kilby
