Did you ever see those T-shirts that read, "Yes, I Believe In God!"? I've seen several of them, and I assume they're quoting the similarly titled book about Cassie Bernall, the girl who is rumored to have said that just before she was shot to death in the Columbine massacre. Truly, I pray I would be as brave in the face of such danger. I wonder though, is that exactly what Cassie said? Others have reported that, in fact, when her killer asked the question, "Do you believe in God?" Cassie actually responded, "I believe in Jesus Christ, and so should you." Would it really matter what she said? I believe in God or I believe in Jesus Christ? It probably wouldn't matter at all, as long as both were true. Unfortunately, believing in God is quite common (even Satan believes in God), but many who accept God do not accept Jesus as His Son. The real determiner is not whether a person believes in God, but whether or not that person has accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. One is not the same as the other, and Jesus often said as much.
"He who hates me hates my Father as well." John 15:23
