Friends,
Over the last few weeks, I’ve been working with several teens who are currently experiencing suicidal idealism. Interestingly enough, none of them are much interested in “spiritual” things and have told me so. One went so far as to tell me they “have a real problem with a lot of things in the Christian Bible.” What’s immediately interesting to me is that these suicidal ideas most certainly come from a “spiritual place”, it’s just that the spirit in this case is demonic. Jesus calls out the “thief” or the “enemy” or even “Satan” by one of his many names in many of His teachings. John’s gospel contains probably the most succinct occurrence in John 10:10 (above). Clearly, Jesus want us to enjoy “LIFE” in all of its FULLNESS! As we use our God-given gifts, we most certainly experience a deep and almost overwhelming joy that comes directly from the Holy Spirit. The opposite is also true. As more families move away from the church, the enemy’s voice becomes louder and more persistent. Today, suicide is the #1 cause of death among college students in the United States (cdc.org). Virtually every study acknowledges teen suicide is on the rise and becoming an epidemic. Today, one in three females report they have seriously considered suicide in the last year (pewtrusts.org).
Friends, Jesus is in the LIFE business. And WE are in the life business! Please continue to pray for us and the young people we serve as we do everything we can to overcome the evil one with Truth and abundant life. And as always, THANK YOU for the part you play in helping us reach souls for Christ!
Blessings in Christ,
Pastor Jim Kilby
