Sometime ago, I was chatting with a group of five or six unchurched teenage boys as one of them laughed when he mentioned some gruesome photos someone sent him via e-mail. Surprisingly, the pictures were of dead people shot in the face with shotguns! Stunned, I listened in horror as the boys each talked about how they'd seen similar pictures on the internet, and I was reminded of how Dale Earnhardt's wife had fought to keep her husbands morgue photos off of the web. Astonished as I was, I wasn't surprised when the conversation moved on to pornography. After a few seconds, I thought it wise to remind the young men I was a minister and all this was way outside of what God expects of us. As they stared at my bewildered, I went on to tell them I had NEVER seen any pornography on the Internet. And, I hadn't seen pornography at all for a very long time. I could have knocked these boys over with a feather, but I'm not sure who was more surprised when they rang out almost in concert, "No way! You've never seen pornography?" As our conversation went on, it was clear these young men were so steeped in this activity that they truly believed the rest of the world (including me) was doing it too! The sad part is that they are right. With a few exceptions, the whole digital world IS doing it! And what's worse, most don't see any problem with it. The Bible speaks of "blindness" and "deafness" brought on by walking with Satan, and I believe our nation is setting new records. What's more, the Bible speaks of evil's fascination with death and dying, not unlike the photos these kids were laughing about. How easily our young people move from video games and cartoons with "animated violence" to a fascination with the real thing? The same thing happens with pornography, and there are more than just a few thousand churchgoing men involved, too! If you are fascinated with viewing pornography (or worse), you MUST take this before your Lord immediately. Talk to God about what's going on in your heart, and what's going on in your mind. If you're in need of specific help, send me a note and I'll get your some additional information where you can find help.
"For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them." Matthew 13:15
