I recently had a contractor over to give me an estimate on doing some work at my house. I wound up hiring someone else because it seemed the first guy really didn't want to do the work. I thought it was interesting, because it said "Home Improvement" right on the side of his truck, but he really didn't want to do anything, like "improve" my basement for example. Sure, he was willing to do a few small things for what I thought was way too much money, but he wanted to leave the hard stuff to someone else. As Christians, I think we often have the same attitude. We tell folks we're Christians, but when it comes to actually sacrificing for others, we're not all that interested. We'll put the fish on our car and be willing to take any blessings given to us, but we'll often turn up our noses if something appears to require too much of us. I have a question for you to ponder. Would it have been a sin for Jesus not to allow Himself to be sacrificed for our sins? It would have been if that was what the Father required of Him. What is it that the Father requires of you? Are you willing to sacrifice for the Lord, or are you mostly just interested in the blessings He promises?
"They did not burn incense or present any burnt offerings at the sanctuary to the God of Israel. Therefore, the anger of the Lord has fallen on Judah and Jerusalem; he has made them an object of dread and horror and scorn, as you can see with you own eyes... My sons, do not be negligent now, for the Lord has chosen you to stand before him and serve him, to minister before him and to burn incense." 2 Chronicles 29:7b-8, 11
