Have you seen that little thing people are doing these days where they put their hand up in someone's face while the other person is talking. The move is coupled with the bold proclamation, "Talk to the hand!" It's gotten to be so common around the young people in these parts that it's become sort of a little joke between some of us. As soon as somebody starts saying something funny or out-of-line, someone else will put a palm up near their face, cutting them off in mid-sentence. Funny as it is sometimes, I've begun to think that many folks do something similar to Jesus. He speaks to us through His Spirit, but many times we simply throw up a hand and boldly proclaim, "Talk to the hand, God, 'cause the face ain't listening." Rough translation: "I deny you as my Lord. Actually, I've thought about it and I think I know better than you do. I've decided I want to be my own God."
"No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also." 1 John 2:23
