My next door neighbor has a key to our home, and we have a key to hers. In case of emergencies and such, we're both welcome to enter the other person's house and do whatever is necessary. Just the other day, the alarm system went off in our house. Since my family was out for the evening, our neighbor promptly and efficiently took care of the situation. Now imagine with me... What if we came home one day and found our neighbor had used the "emergency key" and let herself in permanently! What if she moved her stuff in, made herself a sandwich, turned on the television and plopped down on the couch? I like my neighbor and all, but our relationship is mostly cordial. Barbecues. "How are the kids doing?" Back yard chatter, etc. She's welcome to help us out in emergencies and all, but she's surely not welcome to just move into our home! Which makes me think... Do we sometimes treat our Lord that way? I wonder how many people keep Jesus at a similar distance? Welcome to come in during emergencies, but strictly "cordial" any other time. If He were in our home all the time, could we stand it?
"The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us." John 1:14
