Have you ever wondered why God made us with two ears and only one mouth? I've heard it said that no matter why He did it, we should use them accordingly--meaning that you should listen at least twice as much as you talk. The Bible also tells us that those who talk much, also sin much! Interesting... do you think God knew we liked to be listened to, but that would probably talk too much instead of listening to others? I read that a man in California took out an advertisement telling people that he would listen to them talk for one complete hour without saying a word. Would you be surprised to learn that he made a fortune! People were beating his door down just to have someone listen to them without yapping the whole time. The lesson for us is this... People all around YOU want to have someone who'll listen to them. Some because they're hurting, some because they're lonely, and surely some because they need the Lord. For the next few days, try to notice what you do more. Do you listen more than you talk, or is it the other way around? If you're out of balance, or if what comes out of your mouth doesn't speak well of our Lord or your faith in Him, pray that God will help you make the necessary adjustment.
"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." Ephesians 4:29
