If you were blindfolded, could you pick your mom's or dad's voice out of a crowd of talkative people? I know moms are good at telling when their baby is crying even if there are lots of other babies also crying, and I've heard that a baby can almost always pick his or her mom's voice out of a crowd. The other day I realized that I could also tell my youngest son's cry in the midst of a bunch of kids who were playing loudly on a playground. There was something in the voice that I recognized and immediately I was on my feet and heading toward him. As I called his name, he knew it was me before he ever saw me. Jesus said something quite similar about His followers. His true followers can pick his voice out of a crowd. Of course, it's a lot easier if they're doing their best to stay close to Him!
"When he [Jesus] has brought in all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger's voice." John 10:4-6
