The other day I was introduced as "Pastor Jim" to a young woman who came by the teen center I run. I could see her face distort as she boldly said, "Pastor? I don't' like your kind of people!" I hope I surprised her when I responded, "I don't blame you a bit!" You see, just because a person has "pastor" or "reverend" or "father" or some other religious title before his (or her) name, does not mean he is perfect. Those tiles are supposed to mean that the person was called by God to serve Him, and to serve people for Him. Time and time again, however, religious positions have been used as a license to steal from people who need help and to distort the truth. Just today I read of another pastor who had stolen money from those he was supposed to be serving. Endlessly I read totally unbiblical statements being made by people whose titles will make other people believe they know what they're talking about! What's worse, people (like this young woman) are being hurt--possibly even driven away from a relationship with Christ. Satan loves to use people who love the religious limelight... He's been using them for a long time, and Jesus made a point of warning us about it. If you hear something you think is incorrect (even in my writings), check them out for yourself. The Bible is a book written for all of us to read and study!
"While all the people were listening, Jesus said to his disciples, 'Beware of the teachers of the law. they like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. They devour widows' houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. Such men will be punished most severely.'" Jesus of Nazareth (Luke 20:45-47)
