When I was a young military officer, I learned many valuable lessons. Some of the most important were simple manners. There are "do's" and there are "don'ts" when it comes to the manners an officer is expected to express. For example, I learned that I was "never" to go to someone's house empty handed. That meant that if I was invited to someone's house for dinner, etc., and I wasn't specifically told not to bring anything, then proper etiquette would demand that I brought my host (or hostess) a small gift. In my Christian walk, I've learned that God also wants me to treat Him with similar honor and respect, and that a portion of what I get (generally at least ten percent) goes immediately to the Lord's work. Are you walking into the Lord's presence empty handed? Remember, it was HE who gave you the ability to make money in the first place!
"No one is to appear before me empty handed." Exodus 23:15b
