For years I've been signing letters, notes, and emails with the closing, "In Christ." I've seen many others tag-lines that Christians use, but for me, "In Christ" has long been my favorite. For those who may have wondered why I use the closing, the phrase, "In Christ" comes from the New Testament and it was often used by the Apostle Paul to describe the relationship we have with our Lord. Basically, it means we are "one" with Jesus. We know that the His Holy Spirit inhabits every believer, but do we often realize that every believer also inhabits Jesus Christ? That is to say, that every Christian, regardless of race, sex or any other external determiners is a part of the Body of Christ. The Scriptures go on to say that every Christian actually belongs to the other--that we are all part of something larger than ourselves. We, together, make up the church of Jesus Christ. We are His bride, and He longs to bring us home to be with Him. "Sincerely," may be a wonderful closing for a letter meant for the business world, but when I sign a letter to you (my brothers and sisters), I will always sign it "In Christ."
"But now IN CHRIST Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ." Ephesians 2:13 (Emphasis mine)
